Do You Suffer from Sugar Cravings?

Many start a weight loss journey with the best of intentions
only to be thwarted by intense sugar cravings.
The average American consumes 20 teaspoons of added sugar each day,
That is 2-3 pounds of sugar per week!

Here are a few tips to curb those sweet cravings:

Increase your protein intake. Often your body will display sugar cravings when what it really needs is more protein. Try eating a boiled egg instead of reaching for that piece of candy.

Remove the temptations. Get rid of the cakes, ice cream, cookies, candy etc.
If they are not within reach your will not eat them. Opt for a piece instead.

Eat frozen grapes or bananas. Put a bag of grapes or a sliced banana in the freezer overnight and eat when those sugar cravings attack.

Drink a glass of water. Sometimes our bodies confuse hunger with thirst. Or try a naturally sweetened herbal tea.

A deficiency in trace minerals may cause you to crave sugar. Some of these minerals are: chromium, vanadium, magnesium, or zinc. Talk to your health professional about supplementing your mineral intake while on your weight loss journey.
Food sources of magnesium are soy beans, spinach, lima beans, almonds, oat bran and brown rice.
Zinc is found in foods such as beef, pork, yogurt, almonds and oatmeal.

Combating your carvings may be as easy as diverting your attention. Instead of focusing on the craving do something you enjoy, such as reading a book, doing a crossword, etc.

If you give into your craving, don't give up!
Just keep perservering and eventually you will learn to control your cravings!
