Somewhere in Between

It's New Years Eve and like a lot of people I am going out to celebrate.
I decided to buy myself a new outfit.
I found the perfect shirt to cover all the imperfections (fat rolls) and picked up a pair of jeans the size that I have worn for the past few years. I didn't pay much attention to them at the time.
I had the thought yesterday that I should try them on and am glad that I did!
They turned out to be "mid-rise" jeans and I couldn't even get them buttoned!
So back to the store I went.

I spent quite some time going through piles of pants trying to find a pair that would flatter my rather bulging tummy.  I took several pair to the dressing room in various sizes.
Some turned out to be too small and some turned out too big.
Looking at myself in that dressing room mirror I had to laugh at myself...
I have never had this much trouble finding a pair of pants!
Frustration was kicking in!
Back to the piles to look again...there has to be a pair somewhere that will fit!

The newest fad here is the "skinny" jean.
Tons of them are hanging on the racks and piled on the shelves.
They range from size 0 to 28W.
My thinking: "If they make them that big then surely I can wear them!"
HA!  The dressing room mirror revealed to me that I am somewhere in between
the dreaded muffin top and a semi truck spare tire!
This year I will be celebrating wearing my old but still comfortable jeans.

My trip to the store did accomplish one thing.. I am eager to start my weight loss journey tomorrow with a new found motivation!

Achieving Goals

How do you achieve your goals?

First you must make them.
Be reasonable!
Don't set your goals so high you are doomed to failure!
Then make a plan!
With a plan in place you can reach they sky!
Be accountable to yourself.
Place reminders of your goals where you can see them often.

A few good rules for goal setting:

Your goals must be in harmony with one another, not contradictory. They must be realistic.

Your goals must be challenging. They must make you stretch out without being overwhelmed,
yet not so difficult that you can become easily discouraged.

You need both short-term goals and long-term goals. You need goals for today and goals for five, ten, and twenty years from today. Start with the short term.

Stay Focused! You always know what you're doing and why. You have a continuous sense of forward motion.

The most important rule of all:

Journaling... Keeping Track

One of the best things you can do for yourself is to buy yourself a notebook.
Keep track of your journey to find what works best for you.
A few things you may want to include are the following charts:

These are of course samples you may choose to incorporate your own.
Just make sure to journal your progress on a daily basis.

There are also online programs available to keep track.such as
 or

I have not used or tested these websites.  If you have any feedback on them it would be appreciated.

There are also various free Aps available for download on your smart phone.

It is important to keep track
It seems that the simple act of writing down what you eat encourages people to consume fewer calories

My Weight Loss History

At the age of 38 i had hit my highest weight ever. I topped out at 274 lbs.At 5'6" I found myself in the extremely obese category.I got that way by eating for comfort.I really didn't care that I was packing on the pounds. I overate because I love food. I was unhealthy, uncomfortable and had been diagnosed with diabetes. At that point I decided it was time to do something about it.Around that time the Atkins Low Carb diet was all the rage.So I jumped on the band wagon along with thousands of others.I also purchased a gym membership and worked out 5 days a week. I found it to be effective, yet very costly. It took over a year of this grueling pace but I managed to lose 112lbs. I felt better than I had in years! Was able to stop taking the diabetic medication. I felt as though I had my life back.

I maintained this loss for several years. Paying attention to what I ate and still going to the gym a couple of times a week. Then life stepped in and reared its ugly head as it is wont to do.My Mother was diagnosed with advanced stage liver disease. It is amazing to learn all the functions the liver has on a body and how important it is to be healthy. It got to a point that I was forced to sell my home and move in her home to become a full time caretaker for her and my disabled father. Working a full time job and taking care of the two of them my health and weight issues got put on the back burner so to speak. I paid less attention to what I was eating and quit going to the gym. Needless to say I started packing on the pounds. In no time at all I had gained 65lbs. My clothes no longer fit, I was tired all the time and my sugar levels were going back up.

I ran across the owner of A Well Being on Facebook. I admit I was skeptical when she told me that her HCG Product would help you to lose up to two pounds a day. She send me a sample bottle to review. My first round of the HCG Diet I lost 25lbs in 15 days. I was amazed! I had become a believer! I love that the pounds came off quickly.  They stayed off as long as I payed attention to what I was eating.

In May of 2012 my Mother lost her battle with her disease. Through my tears of this devastating loss I turned back to my comfort food to deal with my emotions I was experiencing. The pounds came back quickly. Before I knew it in three months I had gained almost 40lbs.
In November I began another 30 day round of the HCG diet.
I have to admit that I had a hard time staying on target to the protocol this round. I was still emotional and still very much missing my Mother, yet I did manage to lose 16lbs.

I have made the decision that MY HEALTH is going to be my number one priority!
No matter what it takes I am going to do this!

I have over time  reviewed and tried most of the products offered by A Well Being and have found them all to be effective. My preference is the HCG Drops as I like that the weight comes off much more quickly. The support you receive over at A Well Being is awesome!

So now you know a little about me and my journey.
I begin a new round on January 1st!
Stay tuned for updates...better yet order your supply and join me!
Lets do this together!

Water Intake and Weight Loss

Correct water intake is one of the hardest things for me to accomplish when dieting.
Water is just blah... tasteless and boring.
As an avid coffee and diet soda drinker,
I find it extremely hard to drink the amount of water I should each day.

How much should you drink?
One way to calculate how much water you need is to take your current weight in pounds and divide by two.
This is the amount of water in ounces you should drink EACH day.

A delicious way to get the required intake is with this Cucumber Detox water.
It is simple and inexpensive to make.

Recipe:  For one half gallon slice one half medium size cucumber, one half lemon, add 6 to 10 mint leaves and steep in the fridge overnight.
Drink and enjoy!

Why Do You Want to Lose Weight?

This seems like a very obvious question and an equally obvious answer.
And yet you would be surprised by the answers.

Myself, personally, it is because I am tired.
Tired of feeling tired.
Tired of looking in the mirror and not liking what I see.
Tired of having to try on several outfits each day because they are too tight and uncomfortable.
Tired of not having the energy to even move most days.

At my age (51) it is more difficult to lose weight than it was a few years ago.
Menopause has reared its ugly head into my life making it even more difficult.

When a woman is undergoing menopause, estrogen levels decrease dramatically. When this occurs, weight is redistributed to the stomach, with an increase of cholesterol, risk of heart disease and osteoporosis.
Naturally, as people age, muscle mass decreases and the metabolism will slow down, the body requiring fewer calories. More then often, the calorie intake remains the same. In addition to this weight gain and muscle loss, the older people get, the less they tend to be active, so not only are they now eating more calories then the body requires, they are burning less. Last but not least is the role of stress. Woman at this age have lived through at least half a lifetime of it. During this time they have endured stress that may have involved children and also the additional stress of menopause itself. Stress leads to weight gain and comfort eating.

I am determined to make this lifestyle change.
I am determined to lose this unwanted weight.
I am going to do this!
